David's Priorities for Manhattan Beach

Keep Our Community Safe
I will ensure our police department is fully funded, has the tools it needs to protect our families and businesses, and keeps us informed about crime. I supported Automatic License Plate readers and will continue exploring effective crime-fighting deterrents.

Fiscal Responsibility
I will scrutinize City spending to ensure public funds are properly spent and aligned with our community priorities.  I voted against costly, unnecessary expenditures and will continue to prevent wasteful spending.

Limit State Housing Mandates
I will fight to protect our small-town character by meeting state housing requirements without approving large scale developments.

Cannabis Regulation
I support the continued prohibition of commercial cannabis activities in Manhattan Beach.   The prohibition was enacted through an ordinance I supported and signed as Mayor in 2017.

Voters have the choice on the November 8th ballot to continue or eliminate the prohibition.    I urge voters to vote NO on Measure MB, which would repeal the prohibition and allow "pot shops" and other commercial cannabis activities.   Instead, please vote YES on Measure V which would reaffirm the 2017 prohibition.

Protect Our Beaches and Environment
I support an active response to climate change that includes rising sea levels and threats to our water supply.  Our coastal environment is central to what it means to live in Manhattan Beach. Over the past 18 years, I proudly participated in City initiatives that protected our beaches and environment.

Partnerships and Collaboration
I support partnerships with other government agencies to address common concerns.  We are a small City that benefits greatly when working with other cities, such as successfully fighting the “Road Diet” on Vista Del Mar to restore traffic lanes.

Disaster Preparedness
I will support community programs to help residents protect their families, homes, and businesses in a natural disaster. We are overdue for a large earthquake.  As Mayor in 2017, I was proud to organize a community meeting with renown seismologist Lucy Jones.

Changing the Tone
I will focus on problem solving and collaboration rather than disputes and polarization. We should not let national divisions seep into our local politics.

Electric Power Reliability
I will build upon my past successes to ensure Southern California Edison continues investing in its equipment in our City to reduce power blackouts.

Open Government
I will continue exploring how to make our local government and its decision-making open and accessible to residents.

City Infrastructure
I will continue to support investments in our City infrastructure.  I was proud to vote in favor of replacing Peck Water Reservoir, upgrading water distribution pipes and storm drains, and replacing the East Manhattan Beach Fire Station.
